Events at The Book Bower
June Book Readings and Signings:
Saturday,
June 19 between 4 and 6 PM, Dr. Robert A. Linden,
a local board-certified internist and geriatrician, will discuss and sign
his recently released book, The Rise & Fall of the American Medical
Empire: A Trench Doctor's View of the Past, Present, and Future of the
U.S. Healthcare System. The text discusses four of the major problems
facing our current medical design: the impending death of primary care,
healthcare insurance and system reform, pharmaceutical industry infiltration
into the practice and science of medicine, and dilemmas in medical malpractice.
The book is written as an impartial educational tool for citizens of the
United States by a "trench doc," a physician who has worked
in the fields 24/7 as a patient advocate for over 30 years. Sequestered
in their offices and over-worked and stressed, trench docs, the "silent
majority" in medicine and the sector that renders the bulk of American
health treatment, rarely have the time to educate their own patients on
what is truly going on in healthcare today. This book takes up the cause,
enlightens us all on the problems we are facing, and, hopefully, empowers
citizens to enter the medical debate.
- Frustrated
healthcare consumers are clamoring for information on what is happening
in the healthcare market place, why it's happening, and what can be
done about it.
- This
is the first book to cover the four major healthcare dilemmas together,
while also exploring the context of how they create pain and suffering
for both patients and physicians. Many other titles appear to have pre-existing
agendas and leave a void in their explanations of how our system is
currently failing.
- This
author's perspective and insight as a 30-year veteran of primary care
practice allows him to provide a realistic, comprehensive view of how
the healthcare system has deteriorated and whether there is light at
the end of the tunnel.
Saturday,
